Launching of the IBEST’s Web Portal on Ethics

I am pleased to inaugurate the Web Portal of the Islamic Body on Ethics of Science and Technology (IBEST) as the launching event of the 30th Year Celebrations of the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organizations (ISESCO). These 30 years of ISESCO mark day by day advancement, harnessing the power of education, science and culture for the benefit of the Member States, towards building a strong Islamic Ummah.

The Islamic Body on Ethics of Science and Technology was established by ISESCO to analyze thoroughly the ethical risks involved by scientific and technological progress, with a view to preserving and protecting the identity of our Member States and to provide a mean of communication between scientists, researchers and physicians in order to allow fast interaction on issues of prime importance in the field of ethics.

Web Portal of the Islamic Body on Ethics of Science and Technology (IBEST) is launched to enforce this objective and enhance interactions among the national committees on ethics of science and technology to interact with each other and contribute through exchange of viewpoints on ethical issues prevailing at international level as well as problems addressed by international committees. The ultimate aim is to develop consensus among the Member States on all ethical issues. This is a bigger challenge with respect to the known sensitive nature of ethical issues from Islamic point of view and all the conflicts that may arise from discussion of its discrepancies in relation to unbridled use, research and medical practices. IBEST has, therefore, an important role to ensure that this web portal becomes a powerful mean to promote consensus and present the true modern vision of the Islamic World in accordance with Islamic principles and values.

The Web Portal of IBEST is a comprehensive network that contains various subjects of interests, which will serve as substratum of knowledge through provision of continuous information on ethical issues.

I would encourage all of you to actively participate in this interactive portal.
